THE INITIAL PAINT CHIP CHALLENGE
In this challenge, participants must make a quilt using colors based on their initials AND actual paint chip colors.
Initial Rules: If you are a person who normally only uses two initials, then it’s your choice to stick with the two, or choose the option to add another, but it must be a maiden or family name. Three initials is the limit. For example, if your name is Brenda Rice, then you can use paint chip colors based on B and R, or you can add your maiden or family name, eg. Pointer, for the initials BPR and pick your paint chips based on those initials.
Paint Chip Rules: Continuing with the initials example of BPR, you CANNOT choose chips with a plain color name. For example, you cannot choose blue, pink, red. Try choosing chip names with a little pizzaz, like bling-bling blue, pretty in pink, and rockin’ red. Paint chip names like seashore, pear, sand, etc. are acceptable as well. Remember that most paint chips are solid colors and your fabrics should read the same based on the name you choose.
Quilt Rules and additional colors: The quilt can be any size from miniature to bed-size, but must be quilted and bound. Hanging sleeves would be nice also. Be sure to show your paint chips with your quilt. You may add up to two or three extra colors in your quilt, based on the number of initials you use, but the initial paint chip colors should be prominent in the quilt. Traditional and art designs are welcomed. Challenge yourself to go outside of the box with design. Change is good!
Challenge Deadline: The quilts will be due at our September meeting, just in time to be shown at the library show.
I hope you enjoy this challenge.
